January What a way to start our new
year... We received a voicemail saying to call her back in the wee hours of Jan 1st. Only to find out that it's Ninang Evelyn
- we found out her husband died in a motobike accident. The succeeding weeks were quite busy helping her with the formalities
in Dubai. Well, not much really... but spending time with her and the rest of the family made us pre-occupied.
The
sudden death of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum gave us more time to spend home. Dubai mourned for the loss of a leader.
Work stopped and the surrounding was gloomy. There was a plan to visit Manila, but as all embassies were closed, Olwin was
not able to secure a visa. Oh well, we continue to trust God to do might and wonderful things ahead.
February This month, most of our bills
were spend on medicines and hospital payments. I was taken to the hospital 3 times, due to allergic reactions, asthma and
vertigo. After I had recuperated, Olwin fell sick due to over fatigue, had high fever and body pains. But as always, by the
Grace of God, we were healed.
April
It's dad's birthday this month, unfortunately, I would not be able to go home as I usually
did for the past several years. Can't take time off due to work and Olwin was also tied with some work activities.
I wished my dad a very happy birthday and I truly love him!
May
I found a our highschool batch group mail - Rizal 91. Emails/trivia/confessions just overflowed.
Nice to hear from everyone from different parts of the world. Our volleyball team was supposed to participate in a tournament
in Portugal - but 2 days before we leave for Lisbon, we were told that it was called off - ahhh, somehow it was a blessing
- we saved additional expense!
End of May, my boss David Pierce retired from Emirates. He will be missed. I wonder who
will replace him?
June It's my birthday this month! and
Kuya (brother) too. Both of us celebrate our birthday on the same date. Olwin gave me a new fancy mobile phone... I baked
a cake for myself - first chocolate cake - a bit burned, but ok... hehehe...
July My baking stint continues... in
prep for olwin's birthday, i tried few sorts of stuff - cakes, cookies, muffins, brownies. I baked sugar-free cake for Olwin,
using apple sauce as the sweetener. Oh, my hanaba is a year older and wiser.
August
I went to manila for a short vacation. I was at home for about 1 week. Didn't see any
of my friends except Wenggay who was really a true and good friend from the start. Of course, I saw other dear friends from
the church, I was really happy to see Onard - the musical whiz... This time, i just spent time at home, with mom and dad.
We went out for dinner, the famous Kenny Rogers Roasters in Sta. Lucia. Olly was left in Dubai... Guess he realized
how pretty sad life can be without someone whom he can tease and be mischief with... Oh, I missed him a lot too...
September I went to Paris to join the
delegates to play for Inter-Airline volleyball. I also used this time to meet my ever dearest bestfriend Linel who came from
London. We met in Paris Thursday, and went to Disneyland on Friday. Had the tournament on Saturday and off back to Dubai on
Sunday... It was a marvelous time of fellowship, fun, adventure and games.
Ramadan started late September and that meant volleyball tournament for our team. There
wil be a series of volleyball games coming October, to be held in Global Village.
My new manager joined our team - the only rose among the thorn! I wish her all the
best.
October
It's all about volleyball this month. A series of game scheduled. Good number of participants
from the team this season. Check out our website: http://ekvolleyball.tripod.com for more info and photos. We ended up holding the trophy and wearing the gold medals winning the championship! Thanks
to all my team mates who are dedicated and really good.
November It's mom's birthday this month,
and I have asked Kuya (my brother) to buy a fridge for mom.. he found something within our budget - 10cu. ft. Kelvinator.
It was delivered on the day of my mom's birthday. She's so happy, she called it Chelo.
It's our vacation time to Bombay,
India. After having some problems in getting Olwin's leave approved, finally the boss signed and we're off to prepare everything.
I got my visa on the week that we were leaving, purchased all groceries needed to take, packed stuff and cleaned home. It's
our 1st year anniversary too and it' celebrated with his family and relatives. Good to see all of them.
What I love most about Bombay? It's the ice cream called Temptation, Chocoroco flavor -
chocolate vanilla that tastes like cake, not too sweet, soft in the mouth and chocolaty... The best!
December
This month passed by so quickly. Work made each of our week so fast. We got a new
cable TV, installed a DSL internet line, enjoyed discounted food treat courtesy of 'the entertainer' coupons. It rained quite
a few times than usual in Dubai - ohhh, weather is really nice and cool.
